To Club Chairman
Once again it would be more than welcomed to see the selected weekend sides published in the Mercury . Even if there are selection doubts after training on the Tuesday night .... the old standby 'Selected From' could certainly be used.
In addition it would be useful to read about players who are new to the club...what progress is taking place with injured players etc. The popular side needs to be better informed for match days........come on no lame excuses please....................
Clayton
thank you for your interest. With regard to selection, the issue has been raised with Playing of rugby but there are good reasons why we do not publish teams in the mercury.
The Club does selection on a Tuesday night. The playing of rugby committee have agreed with players that where there are selection changes, they will speak to players directly prior to training on a thursday evening. In the old days of the Mercury being published on a Friday, this system worked well. However with the Mercury now going out on a Thursday, the ability to speak to players face to face and publish disappears. That is why we update the website on a Friday, with a match preview and team selections.
I agree it would be great to read more about everything going on, but with a dwindling number of volunteers prepared to contribute, it falls to the same people to do everything, and Im afraid there are only so many hours each of us can commit to the club. With regard to the mercury specifically, I will forward your comments on to Bob Hedges as our press officer
Clayton, whilst you may not agree I hope this at least provides useful context.
happy to call to discuss further.
Pete
