On a heavy and wet pitch and facing into a stiffening breeze Weston had the better of the opening 20 minutes and went close to scoring several; times but lacked a clinical edge to their finishing.

Camborne finally gained some momentum and exerted some pressure and on only their second visit to the visitors half of the field they won a penalty. They kicked from the corner and from the resulting line out caught and drove the ball with great power and scored a forwards try. The conversion was not made and with barely five more minutes on the clock they repeated exactly the same trick. This time the forwards drive over the Weston line resulted in a try that was converted and Camborne had opened up a 12 – 0 lead.

From the restart Weston took full advantage of regained possession and they worked the ball through several phases and Hocking was on hand to touch down a final drive to the line by the pack. MacKay’s conversion cut the hosts lead to five points and Weston were hopeful of making further inroads but their hopes were dashed by a third try, deja vu as it was a carbon copy of the first two tries. The conversion was made and Camborne had established a fifteen point lead in the space of just 16 minutes.

With the wind at their backs Weston hoped to trim back the lead and they tried valiantly to gain some momentum but there were too many mistakes, dropped passes and wrong option taken for them to pose any serious threat and the hosts defensive work was secure although they were rarely out of there own half.

Against the run of play their full back stepped out of a tackle and sprinted away for the line to score Camborne’s bonus point try. Weston finished strongly but could prise open the defence and the game finished with Weston recording their sixth consecutive defeat. This has resulted in a slide to 12 position and Weston need a change in form and fortunes in the remaining eight games of the season if they are to avoid a relegation battle.
