The annual club dinner was held at the club and Dr George Papworth introduced a minutes silence for club players and members who have been lost this year.
Somerset RFU President Des Chalmers then continued proceedings with a speech thanking Weston for their excellent organisation for the Somerset Cup Final which was a memorable game between the two Weston clubs.
Weston first team had a mixed season finishing fourth in South West one West and losing to Hornets in the cup final. They won eighteen of their total of twenty nine games including cup matches. Leading appearances were Bryan Webb with twenty eight followed by Hayden Tuttiett and Dan Lomax with twenty seven. Leading points scorers were Glenn Dickson and Lomax with 168 points each and Chris Young led the try scorers with 13 followed by Matt Watkins with 12. Lomax picked up the young player of the year award and Young players player. The player of the year award was jointly presented to George Sparks and Richard Bignell.
The United had another consistent season and manager Stuart Board spoke eloquently about the introduction of colts into the side. They played a total of 26 games winning 15 drawing one and losing 11. They finished a creditable fourth in Somerset Premier the highest of any second team in the county. Leading appearances were Joe Pullen with 21 followed by veteran Paul Sprague with 20 and promising lock Callum Kingscott with 19. Leading points scorer was George Chapman with 146 points. James Matthews led the way with ten tries. Chapman picked up the United player of the year award and Kingscott young player. Spragues son Dominic was thanked for his unselfish help throughout the season.
Andrew Ballard presented the Athletic review with his customary humour. The third team played a total of 21 games winning 15 and losing 6. They finished an excellent third in the table. Leading appearances were veteran Grahame Hill and skipper Dan Prime with 19 and Prime also picked up the player of the year award for the second year running with his 211 points including 18 tries which was equalled by Ben Wheeler who also scored 18. Wheeler received the young player of the year award.
The colts awards were presented by Derek Hannam. New player Benbobson Fondu won young Colt and the loyalty award went to Sam Light. Players player went to Billy Kirk and the player of the year was presented to Tom Sugg.
Other awards were presented to Rob Soloman who won the chairmans award presented by club chairman Barry Sparks. Clubman of the year went to the hard working Pete Sloman and the Ann Whatley award was presented to young Bradley Robinson for his help with the first team throughout the year. Sam Waterman was awarded the Peter Spencer trophy for his excellent work on the social side throughout the season.
Finally there was a big thanks to George Sparks who is leaving to take up a teaching post in Brazil for his excellent commitment to the club over the years. He will be greatly missed.
