Weston in Pink but the results are still blue

Weston-super-Mare turned out for their National Three South West match at home to Old Redcliffians wearing a specially designed 'Pink' kit, sponsored by Weston College's Academy of Sport, which were auctioned off later that day all in aid of Charity.

The club were staging the first of this season's Charity Community Days in aid of Breast Cancer with supporters also encourages to wear pink while women wearing Pink were admitted at free of charge.

On the field the 1stXV had to settle for a loosing bonus point from their game against Old Reds thanks to 12 minutes of extra time added at the end of the second half when teh Seasiders scored two tries.

Weston went into the break 8-7 ahead after full back Nauris Berzins try's had opened their account followed-up by a penalty from the boot of centre Jack Skelton. Old Reds reduced the arrears just before the break with a Jason Owen try, converted by Jack Steer.

Skelton missed a penalty attempt and Old Reds full back Steer was off target with his two attempts before the visitors skipper and scrum half Richard Stevens scored under the posts with Steer converting.

Weston's interim head coach Darren Crompton, a half time replacement, was sent to the sin-bin before Olds Reds flanker Sam Steer scored in the corner with Jack Steer adding the extras.

Old Reds prop Lewis Wilson was the next to be hello carded but the scores remained unchanged until both sides were back to full strength. Tries from hooker Craig Withers and centre Sylvan Edwards crossed for Weston tries with Skelton converting the second.

Exmouth remain at the top of the National Three table desipte suffering their first defeat of the season as they went down 27-25 at home to Newton Abbot, who move up to fifth place.

Second placed Hornets are two points adrift of Exmouth having won 36-17 at home to Barnstaple who are now two points above Weston.

Brixham are just behind Hornets on points difference having won 31-27 away to basement side Chard who visit Weston on Saturday with just five points between the sides.

Redingensians are fourth thanks to 19-11 victory at Old Centralians who are seventh; Bracknell are in sixth place after the 65-24 at home to Bournemouth; Oxford Harlequins won 25-23 at Old Patesians.

Weston United have slipped to third place in the Tribute Somerset Premier table after suffering their first defeat of the season going down 22-9 (three George Chapman penalties) at home to unbeaten Gordano.

Winscombe have moved into second spot with a 27-11 win at Tor with Yatton fourth, six points behind Weston but with a game in hand, having lost 35-29 at St Bernadettes Old Boys

Imperial remain rooted at the foot of the table having lost 37-12 at home to Clevedon 2dXV; Nailsea & Backwell lost 41-nil at home to Taunton 2dXV; Old Redcliffians 2ndXV won 53-nil at home to Minehead Barbarians and Oldfield Old Boys won 35-29 at home to Wiveliscombe.

Weston Athletic are now fourth in the Tribute Somerset 2 North table after a depleted side lost 52-nil away to second placed Bristol Harlequins 2ndXV but Old Bristolians 2dXV are five points clear at the top having won 34-14 at Walcot 2dXV.

Clevedon 3rdXV won 27-7 at home to Old Culverhaysians; Gordano 2ndXV were 41-nil home winners over Nailsea & Backwell 2dXV; Oldfield Old Boys 2ndXV lost 26-24 at home to Old Redcliffians 3rdXV; Imperial 2dXV won 17-10 away to Stothert & Pitt 2nXV; Winscombe 2ndXV won 22-17 at home to Keynsham 3rdXV.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS

A last minute penalty from Henry Flower secured an 18-17 home victory for Weston Colts over Frampton Cottrell Colts after the Seasiders had led 15-nil at the break thanks to two George Powell tries plus a Flower conversion and penalty.
