Weston impress in bonus point victory

Weston 45-17 Maidenhead
7 try revenge is sweet for Weston
Weston avenged their defeat earlier in the season away to Maidenhead with a crushing defeat of the visitors who currently sit in third place in the league.
The home side set a cracking pace in the opening minutes and Tom Sugg in support of a backs move touched down for the first try converted by James Mackay with just 7 minutes on the clock
Maidenhead pulled themselves back into the game and their bulky forwards carried well and with Weston skipper sin binned the visitors eventually they created space for wing Blewitt to go over in the right corner. The extras were missed and Weston still has the lead with 25 minutes gone.
Despite only having 14 men on the pitch Weston counter attacked brilliantly against a side that were looking weary due to the pace generated by the home side who scored 3 tries in six minutes from wing Adam Godfrey, tight head prop Olli Streeter, and the best of the trio from the kick off as second row Glen crashed forward , slipped the ball to Ash Russell who galloped up he park and then passed to scrum half Ross Bennett in close support, who crossed for a breathtaking try which earned Weston a bonus point. Mackay made two conversions and Weston went in at half time with a commanding 26– 5 lead.
Just three minutes into the second half and Godfrey was put away to score his second and with the conversion Weston were 33 – 5 in front and looking very much in control.
Maidenhead’s forwards remained committed and they continued to carry well but were made to work very hard to gain ground. Their backs looked dangerous when they had space in front of them but Weston's line speed cramped them for room and Weston had got the measure of Maidenhead’s ability to off load. Eventually after a 5 minute spell of possession the forwards drove for the line and scrambled a try for prop Darlington, but he injured himself in stretching for the line.
Weston continued to press hard and a great backs move that involved Mackay and Jones twice each finished with Mackay touching down. With just over 15 minutes remaining Weston had a deserved and convincing lead of 38-12.
Weston’s backs were creating mayhem and Nel and Jones stretched the Maidenhead defence time and again. The home side went further ahead with another backs move which was finished by Morgan touching down for Weston's 7th try of the afternoon.
Mackay had kicked 5 conversions and the games was won. French scored a consolation try but Weston’s superior defence saw out the remaking minutes and the game finished with Weston very worthy winners.
As a result of the bonus point win Weston move up to 7th place in the South West Premier league. Despite this win, final placing and the dreaded relegation spot will all be decided in the final round of games next week. Whilst Lydney and Hornets are relegated a whole cluster of clubs are separated by just a few points and any of four or five teams could, mathematically speaking end up in the third relegation spot. Weston need just a single point from their final game at Brixham to give an absolute guarantee that it won’t be them. All to play for !
