Not too much to say about this shocker and this report will be deliberately brief.
On a day of surprising results, this one topped the lot! Charity week came to Weston as the home side served up a surfeit of largesse, gifting three tries to the East Devon side within the first twenty five minutes, and a fourth bona fide try scored by their pack from a forward drive for them to lead 27-3 at half time, with only a Mackay penalty to show for Westons’ efforts.
The second half brought parity until the last quarter with Westons’ pack finally starting to subdue the Exmouth eight, which had hitherto competed and defended well, but it was too little, too late. A series of collapsed Exmouth scrums on their line finally allowed Burge to score the obligatory forwards try in the last five minutes, but the visitors managed two more scores during a flurry of scoring as the defence went missing. It’s fortunate that Exmouths’ kicker Powell can’t kick the long shots….it could have been 50!
This Saturday brings a tricky match at Redingensians.
