Wanderers secure title!
Great first league season for reformed Wanderers
The newly formed Wanderers was put back together to enter Somerset 3 to bring players back to rugby, and it has certainly done that.
The Wanderers which is a team steeped in history was created back in the 1960's for those players who could not commit to the first team.
The team was managers included, Sid Raines in the 60's and in more recent times Jon Cullum, Paul Burns and many others.
This Year Tony Bush and Jamie Tuohy took on the job of revitalising the Wanderers, and with a lot of hard work and fun and using over 60 players this season have managed to become Champions in their first attempt.
The Wknds match was against Cheddar ll who valiantly came to the Rec with a full side knowing that the Wanderers were ready to put on a display to make sure they secured the league along with the First 15.
The game was very one sided but the Cheddar side stayed with it, never letting their heads drop.
There were tries from Centre Lewis Clarke 2, Scrum half Max Carter x3 and also Alec Hughes, Darren Burns x2 Jon Filer x2 Nick Hawker, Richard Frost and Ben James.
And a consolation try in the last few minutes of the game for Cheddar which they thoroughly deserved.
The game was played in a great spirit, and referred by Somerset official Paul Burns , who without his help this season the games would have been very difficult to manage.
The game concluded with the Wanderers joining the First Team on the main pitch to celebrate winning the league.
The Wanderers final game will be in a few weeks away at Frome to finish the season .
