North Petherton RFC 10 - 49 Weston-super-Mare RFC
Weston win at North Petherton
Match report by Shane Connolly
Weston under 15’s travelled the short distance south to face North Petherton. The sun was shining and their hosts welcomed them on to their first team pitch. The only thing missing was a Weston 2nd row! With all the usual options unavailable it was left to a mixture of backs, and out of place forwards, to stand in, and do a very good job.
Weston were quick on the score sheet with a try from the almost unstoppable Ruben Picardo in the first 2 minutes, Kyron Pearce duly added the extras. Pethy tried their best to defend their lines but Weston’s strength was too much and a series of scores followed from Harry Strutt, Dom Marshall, Andrew Turner and AJ Major. Determined not to be left out Weston's micro whizz, Matti Abed, wriggled his way through the Pethy throng to dart down over the line just on stroke of half time. Weston led 32-0.
Half time saw Weston move several players into unfamiliar positions and this certainly effected the dynamic of the game. The fact that Weston were able to maintain control of the game whilst benching their stronger players is a credit to the squad.
All credit to Pethy’s lads, who managed 2 tries and played the whole game with smiles on their faces.
Although the changes had taken ‘the foot off the gas’ it wasn’t long before Matti scored again.
Possibly, feeling left out, Weston skipper, Kyron Pearce responded with a brace of tries. The second of which was duly converted by prop Reef Morton with a drop kick. Final score Weston 49 North Petherton 10.
Man of the match, for ferocious tackling and some great turnovers went to Joseph Connolly.
