Seasiders suffer in the eye of the storm

WESTON suffered their fourth defeat of the season when they went down narrowly at Everest Road after they had made a more than promising start.

Playing with the slope they were ahead in the fourth minute when hooker Craig Withers was on the end of a driven line out.

James Mackay converted and 10 minutes later he was making the clean break which enabled Sam Smee to touch down. Mackay converted again for 14-0 but the hosts hit back on the half hour with John Baker’s try.

James Butler converted, then added a penalty, but before the break, Weston took the scoreline to 21-10.

A brilliant counter attack by full back Harvey Skelton was finished off by Paul Morrissey who evaded four defenders in a 25 metre run before scoring at the posts.

Mackay converted again but 30 seconds into the second half Patesians reduced their arrears with a try by centre Ben Parker. As Butler converted the heavens opened and under the deluge the Pats scored crucially with a try by full back Ben Spry in the 50th minute.

Butler was on target again with his third conversion and Weston now had a mountain to climb as well as having to contend with the slope and the heavy rain.

During the remaining 30 minutes they came close to scoring on three occasions. But the hosts’ defence was water tight and they had to be content with another losing bonus point, their fourth of the season.

This disappointing result has been the Seasiders drop to seventh place in the league table and they will need to do much better on Saturday when they receive Old Centralians at 3pm.
