In the second match Weston faced Baglan RFC who were visiting from Port Talbot. Typical of all Welsh junior teams they passed the ball and handled the ball well and made players commit to the tackle, before moving it on again.
With Hobbes back at scrum half and Alfie at fly half they had a direct runner but lost a little discipline along their backs as they wondered out of position too often & gathered round the breakdown. Fortunately Lottie Dadds could often be heard ordering them back.
In a game of open running both teams tackled bravely and their were several stoppages for injuries as a result of some outstanding defence work by both teams. It took a moment of opportunism by Hobbes to break the deadlock. Spotting a blindside gap he darted through to score from 10 metres.
The second half was no less exciting as Baglan stretched the Weston defence left and right. Weston needed someone to step up and that person was Jamie Meaden who produced what was probably the best display by any player all season. Countless times he secured the ball and made yards for his team through the middle with some barnstorming runs.
Aidan Xuereb this time playing in the pack also showed his potential with another great run and if he'd made the pass into 3 player overlap into the space he created Weston would certainly have scored but these skills will come. Isaac Bliss again showed what a great tackler he is and playing at hooker he seemed to enjoy the physical confrontation.
However, it was Bradley Robinson who swung the game. With his first run he took Weston into Baglan's half, only a smack in the face stopped him. The resulting penalty saw Tom Burge who along with Charlie Harding produced two powerful performances take the ball closer. Bradley collected the ball again and broke through, this time metres from the line a high tackle stopped his progress.
Bradley picked himself up and took the short pass to find his way to the line to score a deserved try having been hurt twice in the build up.
Baglan pushed back into Weston's half but it was Jamie Meaden who once again tidied up a loose ball and broke their defensive line. He was through but was pulled back after the game was stopped because of a Baglan injury.
Despite their best efforts Baglan could not breach the Weston defence and after some great pressure Weston recovered the ball and put it into touch.
