United lose to league leaders

After winning their previous two games Weston's second string came into the game full of confidence.
Although they had lost previous captain Ash Russell to the first team they gained his long time second row partner Andrew Glen who took over the role.
In the opening stages the visitors looked every inch the league leaders and their fly half dominated proceedings cutting lines and finding holes in the home defence and it was no surprise when they took the lead out wide with a converted try which they followed up shortly after to give them a fourteen point lead after ten minutes.
Weston unlike earlier in the season are made of stronger stuff these days and instead of meekly succumbing to this onslaught they got their act together and with Glen leading by example they hit back when the skipper went on a marauding run which ended in flanker Billy Kirk crossing. Fly half Archie Tilsley converted. Weston then exerted some pressure and when Glen went on another storming run Tilsley managed to shimmy his way under the posts to allow himself to convert the try to level the scores.
This was the way it stayed until the stroke of half time when after defending heroically at times the home side finally ran out of defenders to allow the visitors to go into the break with a seven point lead.
The second half began cagily but Wiveliscombe looked a good side and in a fifteen minute spell they knocked the stuffing out of the hosts with a three try spree.
With twenty four points to make up heads could have dropped but a fine break by full back Mike McCarthy allowed scrum half Dan Press to make a little snipe and return the ball to McCarthy who crossed for Tilsley to convert.
McCarthy then made a fine break wide on the right hand side before offloading to flanker Blaine Tottle who crossed and went under the sticks for another converted try to cut the lead to ten points and gain a bonus point.
Weston had the chance to claim another bonus point right at the end but Tilsley's penalty attempt ent just wide.
For Weston skipper Glen had a great game leading by example and his performance was backed up once agin by the back row trio of Kirk
Tottle and Ben Cox. In the backs McCarthy was always dangerous and vice captain Rich Muskett was his normal secure self both in attack and defence.
