Instructions

WESTON will be looking to secure their second cup success of the season by adding the GWB Bristol Combination Cup to the Somerset County Cup but first they have to beat Dings Crusaders at the Memorial Stadium.

Captain George Sparks, who missed the Somerset County Cup final 41-19 victory over Clevedon due to injury, returns to lead the Seasiders from the No.8 berth.

Weston are fortunate in that they have had a couple of weeks rest from league action which has allowed some of their injured players to recover so have been able to select from a near full strength squad.

Mark Philp, Weston's chairman of rugby, said: "Playing Dings at the Memorial Stadium is reward for two good cup campaigns and after a great win at Taunton in the Somerset Cup semi final.

"A good performance in this final against a Dings side who have consistently performed well in League 2 over recent seasons, will tell us what we need to know for next season and our attempt to finish higher in League 3 and hopefully compete for promotion.

"We have been a good side when all our key players have been available but lack the strength in depth required to be consistent as our league position shows. We are very keen to perform well but three first choice players are not available, which at this stage of the season is not bad.

"Our aim will be to play our own game and attempt to achieve the standards we have in some of our better performances if we do that we will give ourselves every chance of a victory."

Dings completed their league programme on Saturday with a 36-25 defeat away to relegation bound Newbury Blues, the visitors eighth consecutive league defeat in a a row.

This will be Dings second successive GWB Combination Cup final having beaten Clifton 20-13 in the semi-final while Weston reached the final with a 17-12 win over Barton Hill.

Dings rested a number of players for the league game at the weekend but skipper Dave Wheeler returns at hooker, despite Adam Bellamy crossing for five tries. and Neil Dipple is recalled at scrum half

Steve Lloyd, the Dings chairman, said: "After last season disappointment in the final we need to put things right this time especially after a run of defeats in the league.

"Weston seem to pull off some good performances when they are in cup competitions so we know that we are in for a difficult contest especially as they will want to get one over from a side in the league above them.
