In blustery conditions Weston started the game well. A fine fifty twenty two by young fly ball George Nuttycombe put Weston close to the visitors line and a successful catch and drive from the resulting line out gave flanker Callum Kingscott the opening try. Nuttycombe added the extras with a fine conversion. Okehampton hit back and after going close a couple of times eventually took advantage of the hosts hospitality when an excellent offload from their fly half put the outside centre over for their first try which was converted.
After a mini break by fullback Chris Young and a chip by scrum half Dan Lomax gave left wing Hayden Main a chance to pressurise the visiting fullback who scrambled the ball into touch but Weston could not take advantage with their now deteriorating line out.
They did however retake the lead when Weston's centres Bradley McPate and Huw Morgan combined to put Nuttycombe away and the youngster earned a penalty which he converted to put the hosts three points up at halftime.
The second half was an entirely different story with the writing on the wall when the restart was fumbled and the visitors immediately scored a converted try from the resulting scrum which they added to with two quick fire penalties to put the Okes ten points up. Weston's head's dropped and they went on to concede a further three converted tries which were scored with surprising ease.
Weston have proved that they can compete but only it seems for forty to fifty minutes. This allied to a complete breakdown in their line out and the ease in which the opposition can score second half tries would lead to certain conclusions that hopefully will be taken on board for the rest of the season.
