Weston's season long shortcomings continue to frustrate

At the moment you could quite easily write the script on a Weston fixture. Plenty of heart allied to some golden opportunities which are not usually capitalised on followed by breakaway length of the field tries for the opposition.
And so it proved again at the Rec with Weston attacking from the start only for the ball to be lost and hacked through for the opening try.
Weston to their credit hit back almost immediately when a break by left wing Joe Burgess after a scrum enabling a kick through to be pounced upon by scrum half Jack Press to reduce the arrears to two points. Weston then had a penalty but the touch kick stayed in play and the visitors once again ran it back through soft defence to increase their lead.
They added to their lead with another two long range efforts. Weston regrouped and ground their way to the visitors line only to concede a penalty a yard out. Brixham then had a yellow card given but from the scrum that followed Weston messed up in midfield and eventually concede two kickable penalties which were taken with aplomb.
Weston were twenty seven points in arrears at half time and things did not improve at the beginning of the second half as Weston worked hard to get to the opposition line only for them to run out of the patience that had got them there and losing the ball for the Fishermen to run the length of the field to increase their lead.
Weston did score another try when Archie Tilsley switched with replacement centre Huw Morgan after a scrum and Tilsley added the conversion but Brixham went on to score two more tries the first following an attempt to push the visitors back over their line only for their left wing to pounce on a loose ball to run the length of the field after which they scored another fine effort through a tiring and crestfallen defence to finish off the scoring.
Weston have got to find a way of turning undoubted pressure into points with more patience less silly infringements better decisions when attacking and a more concentrated defensive effort.
Hopefully the Xmas period will provide a period of reflection.
