The Seasiders gain a bonus point victory in first home league match

Weston opened their home league campaign against promoted Coney Hill. Firstly thanks to the volunteers who have put in many hours at the club over the summer period, as the ground and facilities were looking the best they have looked for many a season.

Weston kicked off into a strong breeze and after Coney Hill failed to gather the ball lock Bryan Webb stormed towards the visitors line and when he was stopped the ball was recycled to prop Ollie Streeter which led to fly half Glenn Dickson and centre Harry Jones putting full back Ross Bennett over in the corner to score before the first minute was up.

Coney Hill replied immediately with a penalty after Weston failed to gather the resulting kick off. The rest of the first half was a case of missed opportunities for Weston and in fact Coney Hill went into the break with a one point lead after centre Max Whelan added to his earlier penalty with another three successful kicks against a further Dickson penalty.

The second half offered huge hope to Weston as they played a devastating fifteen man game and scored thirty one unanswered points.

After spurning a couple of opportunities Weston eventually scored through right wing Chris Young following a sweeping passage of play. The arch predator Young then got his second after side stepping to the line with Dickson converting this one. A lovely inside pass by lock Andrew Glen put the elusive Jones in under the sticks after a break out of defence by Bennett. A fantastic try straight from the resulting kick off by Dickson who was aided by a great take by Ash Russell and good work by centre Kirk Middlemiss. Dickson converting his own try.

Russell rounded things off with a well deserved try on the stroke of time with another Dickson conversion to finish a tremendous second half performance.

For Weston there was a welcome return to the fray for Ash Russell who came on as a replacement for flanker Shaun Eaton who required six stitches to a head wound. This was a step up from last weeks stuttering performance at Camborne and will hopefully provide a springboard for the rest of the season.
