One of the few positives arising from the Seasiders relegation at the end of last season is the renewal of this great local derby against Bridgwater & Albion, with both clubs celebrating their 140th season.
In front of a large crowd at The Rec hostilities were renewed between these two old adversaries and it was Weston who prevailed over the current league leaders after a clinical display which was marred only by the loss of influential Kiwi Glenn Dickson with a serious leg injury.
An early brace of tries by flanker Tom Crossman both converted by Dickson was added to by the kiwi to give Weston a nineteen point lead at the break. this was an outstanding first half of rugby against the unbeaten league leaders, with forwards dominating and backs causing the opposition problems every time they had the ball, notably the back three of Chris Young, Harry Jones and full back Ross Bennett, who had earlier led the team out on his 150th first team appearance.
Ten minutes into the second half fly half Dan Lomax crossed and converted his own try before Bridgwater hit back through tries by Tom Denovan James Martin and skipper Ollie Dunn. One of which was converted by Martin.
Weston weathered the storm and a fine Lomax penalty followed by his conversion of flanker Shaun Eaton's sixty metre gallop put the hosts out of sight for a well deserved win and and a bonus point victory.
