Promising start to the season continues with bonus point victory at Bridgwater

Weston travelled to old rivals Bridgwater hoping to maintain their form from last week.
Bridgwater fumbled the kick off and were soon under pressure from Westons pack. On 5 minutes they gave away a penalty and James MacKay slotted his first kick of the afternoon. Just a couple of minutes later Weston were awarded another penalty and MacKay took a quick one, carved through the first line of defence and after some slick passing Spelman was on had to touch down Weston's first try near the posts. Mackay converted and Weston were ahead by 10-0 after just 10 minutes.
Weston's scrummage were completely dominant and their top class line out work was disrupting Bridgwater's and securing plenty of good possession. Bridgwater's defence improved but they remained under significant pressure. This pressure eventually brought a sweeping move by Weston finished superbly by Harry Jones in the corner. Mackay's touchline conversion was perfect. Despite losing influential tight head prop Ollie Streeter to what looked at first to be a serious ankle injury. The rearranged front row were not able to produce the same level of dominance but were nevertheless more than equal to the challenge. The game continued to be dominated by Weston's tight defence and rapid back play. The backs completed another great move with some excellent passing allowing Dickson to score the third try. This time the conversion was not made but Weston still went into the interval 22-0 up.
Bridgwater seemed much more determined in the early part of the second half and only high quality tackling kept them at bay. Their best period of pressure saw Weston give away a series of penalties and Heal took his chance to give what turned out to be Bridgwater's only score of the game.
Weston re asserted themselves with Mackay's try 15 minutes into the second half which he also converted. Weston will feel that they missed some opportunities as they gave away a number of penalties at the breakdown and replacement prop Tom Hocking took a yellow card for the team. Despite being down to 14 men Weston's defence held secure and Bridgwater were unable to convert any of their increased share of possession.
Morrissey had come on for the excellent Webb and when restored to 15 men Weston took control of the last quarter but added just one more try from Dickson. This fifth try was Weston's last for the day and allowed them to run out 34-3 winners and picking up a bonus point. Weston's back row had been superb all afternoon and number 8 Tom Crossman was the man of the match for his tireless work in defence and a number of brilliant turn overs.
Weston entertain newcomers to SW1W Kingsbridge (who lost yesterday to Weston's victims of the previous week, Bideford) at the Rec next Saturday and with a continuation of this form, will be confident of maintaining their current level of success.
