4 tries in final quarter see Weston continue unbeaten run

Weston travelled the short distance to North Petherton with their unbeaten run of five games giving them confidence that they could extend it in this SW1W clash.
North Petherton were however no easy target and their energetic and burly forwards disrupted Weston's plans and Weston had to work very hard to contain them in the opening exchanges.
However the Weston pack was equal to the challenge and after good work by forwards and backs combined they were within striking range a few metres from the try line.
Excellent work by the team gave Tom Crossman a chance and he drove over from short range for the first try after 12 minutes.
Pethy continued to present problems for Weston and the visitors had to work hard on their defence. A moment of class saw James Mackay slide through the home defence and a slick pass to Tuttiett allowed him to scamper in under the posts. With MacKay getting the conversion Weston led after 20 minutes by 0-12.
Petherton came again at Weston but the visitors defence held secure and the team's turned round at half time with no further scores.
Pethy continued to disrupt Weston's pattern of play and after a long penalty into Weston territory skipper Brown broke free from the line out to score in the corner. The conversion was missed and this score seemed to galvanise Weston who began to control things and force Petherton errors.
With Weston asserting themselves and playing to their strengths they ran in 4 tries in the last 20 minutes from Bryan Webb, Glen Dickson, Robbie Mackay and Harry Jones. James Mackay added two conversions to bring the final score to a convincing 5-36.

The Weston players believe that this was a below par performance from them as they allowed themselves to get involved in a forward tussle with a well organised and powerful Pethy pack. In addition their first up tackles were not as clinical as they expect of themselves but they can still be pleased that even when not performing at their best they eventually still won by a clear margin.

Next Saturday is a break from League rugby when Weston host visitors Keynsham for a Somerset cup first round match at the Rec.
