Weston overcome Midsomer Norton to stay top

Weston remain unbeaten following their 15 try demolition of Midsomer Norton in which hat tricks from Paul Morrissey and Hayden Tuttiett were instrumental in setting up a massive 11th successive league win. Weston were on the score sheet after just two minutes following Weston winning back possession from the kick off, quickly recycled ball and a swift passing move out to Chris Young on the wing who took his chance well. A few minutes later Watkins, who was elusive, very quick, and threatening all game finished well for Weston's second try. Almost from the restart Weston's attacking move was finished by full back Jones. Weston's next attack brought the bonus point try for number 8 Morrissey. Just three minutes later Morrissey scored his second and within another two minutes Dickson broke through and scored under the posts. With the score at 38 -0, and with just 20 minutes on the clock, Weston seemed to ease up and the spirited Midsomer pack won possession, set up a good attack and used a rolling maul to good effect to score in the corner.
Weston reasserted themselves for the last 10 minutes of the half with tries from Paul Morrissey completing his hat trick and from scrum half Hayden Tuttiett as Weston looked to be set for a huge score and they turned round at half time with an impressive 50-5 lead.
Weston were quickly in full dominance in every aspect of the game and at the start of the second half they scored two quick tries. The first was from Tom Crossman who had another excellent game, the second from Watkins, to take their lead to 62-5. Many sides would have given up at this point but Midsomer upped their work rate and forced Weston into a number of mistakes. Weston gave away a succession of penalties and the Midsomer pack set up a good rolling maul. Eventually they moved the ball to the narrow side and their scrum half Blackmore scored his side's second try, converted by Tom Rideout.
Weston's play returned to a more disciplined and clinical style and they ran in 5 tries in the last 20 minutes to post a very impressive final score of 95-12. Their play was characterised by great skills in handling including some exquisite off loads, and in rapidly changing their angle of attack.
There were hat tricks for number 8 Paul Morrissey and for scrum half Hayden Tuttiett, wing Matt Watkins scored two and there were tries for Marcus Nel and Glenn Dickson in the centre, for Harry Jones, Chris Young, James MacKay and flanker Tom Crossman. Skipper Sam Coles was also on hand to touch down after a fine move which included 9 passes. Fly half James MacKay converted 10 of the tries to add to his try for a personal tally of 25 points in the game.
Although Midsomer were overwhelmed and outclassed by an in form and high flying Weston side they battled right to the last and the game was played in a very sporting manner.
Buoyed up by this win tight head prop Ollie Streeter was heard to say of mozza's massive show stealing hat trick "Now he's sucking diesel"
Weston will need to be on top form next week as they take on second placed Thornbury in a game which may decide who finishes as champions of SW1W.
