Weston registered the double over old rivals Bridgwater as they secured their 14th win in the league this season. This is the first time since 1937 that the first team has gone undefeated up to the Christmas break and they turned on the style against a spirited Bridgwater team. Tuttiett was on hand to touch down the first try after just 3 minutes and Mackay's conversion gave Weston an early 7-0 lead.
Weston continued to be dominant in all parts of the game, winning their own and their opponents line outs and crushing Bridwater's scrum. Morgan soon crossed for Weston's second try after fourth phase possession. From the restart Weston attacked and this time Jones crossed for Weston's third try and his tenth of the season and Weston had a commanding 19 -0 lead with just sixteen minutes on the clock.
Bridgwater then found some rhythm, and they successfully disrupted Weston's play but were unable to score as Weston's defence was clinical and met every challenge thrown.
Just before half time Weston ran several phases and there were some great passing moves culminating in Young's sprint for the line and the bonus point try on the stroke of half time.
The second half gave no respite for the hard working but over-stretched Bridgwater defence and Morgan broke through and just made the line for his second try.
Bridgwater again disrupted Weston's game and they scored a try under the posts from their best player by far, Roger Drabble. The try was converted but this was to be their last meaningful visit to Weston's half of the ground. Indiscipline earned two yellow cards and Weston ran away with the match scoring three tries in the last 20 minutes. The first was from Dave Bird, making his 250th appearance in the first team and his was a typical Bird try, a touch down from a well controlled driving maul. Young picked up a second following a great series of interchanges and the game was finished in style as Morgan crossed for his hat trick try.
This 8 try demolition of Weston's oldest rivals sets the seal on a great period for the club and Weston will now be hoping for a good run and promotion in the new year.
