Another bonus point victory, but this was always in the balance... match report by Andrew Ballard

In front of a large crowd, many of whom had attended a Past Players Association lunch, Weston continued their unbeaten run but today was a close run thing as North Petherton played like tigers and constantly disrupted any pattern that Weston tried to establish.
With just 30 seconds on the clock Weston had infringed and Melrose stepped up to kick the penalty and give the visitors an early lead.
The game was contested at a great rate and the forwards from both teams were head to head. Eventually Weston managed a good passage of play which brought a penalty but MacKay hit the upright. Just a few moments later Weston took play to the middle of the pitch and inside the 22. A series of forward drives led to Rich Bignell driving over for a try. Mackays conversion attempt hit the post.
Pethy continued to play with great energy and, with Dickson on his way to hospital with a dislocated finger, the visitors were rewarded when their scrum half Kohler crossed for a try converted by Melrose.
The teams turned round at half time with the visitors holding a narrow 5-10 lead.
From the start Weston attacked first on one wing then the other and the excellent move was finished by Morrissey as he touched down for Weston's second try to bring the scores level and all to play for.
Pethy were next to score when Weston were penalised again but the narrow lead was over turned with some great play resulting in a wide move to the right wing and Chris Young scorched in for a try which this time James Mackay converted and Weston led by 17-13.
Weston could not pull clear and a penalty put Pethy deep into Weston territory and following a number of forward drives Pethy's scrum half Kohler crossed in the corner for an unconverted try but this allowed them to take the lead once again by 17-18.
With just a few minutes left on the clock Bignell stole the ball in a tackle and Weston moved the ball rapidly to the wing with a long cut out pass from Berzins, and Robbie MacKay sprinted for the line and made progress toward the posts for Weston's fourth try which earned them a bonus point. James Mackay converted and Weston might have felt comfortable but Pethy pressed hard for the line but were eventually held up in injury time and the referee ended proceedings with Weston victors by six points.
North Petherton had presented some serious problems, and will count themselves unlucky not to have gained more for their efforts, and whilst Weston had just prevailed, they will be disappointed by the number of careless penalties that they gave away which kept their plucky opponents well, and truly in the game right to the end.
