Bright start but defensive frailties once again exposed.
Weston started the game very brightly and after only five minutes full back Harry Jones made a promising break which ended with the visitors knocking the ball back over their dead ball area. From the resultant scrum which was reset three times it proved fourth time lucky when captain Sam Coles forced his way over. Fly half James Mackay added the extras. A short time later Mackay put in an excellent high ball which ended with the Bracknell scrum half cynically killing the ball which gave him ten minutes in the bin.
Weston took advantage of their extra man when a long range break out from the backs followed by some forceful recycling led to flanker Jack Woodland scoring. Weston were twelve points to the good and looking comfortable however a breakout by the visitors left wing Tupua ended with a penalty which was kicked to the corner. Weston defended well and eventually the ball was lost forward. This was though a portent of things to come. Weston lost their line out and Bracknell produced some tremendous close support play which enabled replacement James Ingle to go over. Two minutes later it was deja vu with Weston coughing the ball up which allowed Bracknell fly half Chris Laidler to take advantage and score a try which he himself converted. The scores were now level but a Mackay penalty gave the hosts a slim advantage at half time.
The second half was a different matter with Bracknell scoring early on through scrum half Ross MacDougall and only a try line save by centre Marcus Nel prevented them increasing their lead. Bracknell were definitely in the ascendancy and two long range tries by Tupua and full back Gabe Hills through ever diminishing Weston defence put Bracknell sixteen points to the good. Weston rallied with a try by right wing Hayden Tuttiett but another long range effort finished by visiting centre Nacamavuto ended all hope. A late consolation by Nel gave the hosts a bonus point converted by Mackay but it was too little too late.
Weston must improve their ball retention and defence quickly or they may be sucked into a relegation dog fight that looked a long way away before the turn of the year.
