Brixham power through to win in fitting tribute

In an emotion charged atmosphere following the recent death of tight head prop Kyle Mason the Fishermen use their bulky forwards to win a victory dominated by forward drives.
Brixham took full home advantage of the very wet pitch and the slope as they beat Weston by 6 tries to 2.
Weston’s defence looked up to the task for the opening 20 minutes as Brixham threw everything at the visitors. Weston were hampered by the loss of Brocks from a recurrence of a thigh strain during the warm up and then influential number 8 Talbot sustained an ankle injury after just three minutes. However Weston looked secure and began to seize momentum. They ran some good moves and Weston threatened to break out and score several times but their handling let them down. They did cross the line twice. Howman’s effort wide out was adjudged to have been as a result of the final pass being forward and the Weston forwards were just held up over the line.
When the Brixham 12 was yellow carded Weston should have been able to take advantage but Brixham raised their game and scored two quick tries from the burly pack whose pick and drive was powerful enough to overcome the Weston defence. Pinkus added a penalty and the home side turned round 17 points in front.
From the start of the second half Brixham turned on the power again and score a further two tries using the same ploy as in the first half.
Weston looked out of it but pulled back two tries of their own as they worked the ball wide of the Brixham forwards. Mackay rounded the stretched defence to touch down near the posts and soon after Bennett spotted a gap in the home defence and sprinted through to scorer Weston’s second.
But the day belonged to Brixham as they scored twice more in the closing minutes for a well deserved bonus point win
Weston will need to re-find their spirit and defensive acumen when they face third placed Maidenhead at the Rec next week.
