Mackay secures the draw with final kick of a tight game

Weston 27 -27 Maidenhead.
Weston played hosts to the South West Premier leagues third placed team Maidenhead in a tight and entertaining game at the Rec.
Weston started with great energy and quickly forced turn over ball. They attacked with speed and precision and after 10 minute Dickson cut through for the first try converted by James MacKay.
Weston blunted the threat posed by the big Maidenhead forwards and Weston’s scrummage was beginning to get the upper hand. In a great passage of play involving moves down both wings and good forward support Weston broke through for their second try touched down by Robbie MacKay. The conversion attempt brushed the inside of the post and bounced just wide.
Maidenhead are a strong outfit and they forced a penalty kicked to the corner. From the line out they drove at the Weston line and overcame stout resistance to score their first try in the corner.
Minutes later Maidenhead broke free having collected the kick off and worked through three phases and Hawthorn scored his second of the afternoon. Foxley got the extras and cut Weston’s lead to just 2 points.
Right on the end of the first half Weston pressed hard and after being held up three times over the line it was Dickson who crashed through the centre to score under the leaving James MacKay with a simple conversion and Weston turned round leading 17-10.
Maidenhead started the second half with renewed vigour and forced a penalty error from Weston close to the line. They forced a second and this time the referee awarded Maidenhead a penalty try and a yellow card to Weston’s Andy Glen. The game was very even but Weston appeared to gain the upper hand and came desperately close to scoring on a number of occasions including being held up over the line twice more before Bennett broke free and scored a bonus point try. Mackay converted and Weston looked as though they might take control but Maidenhead came back strongly kicked a penalty goal from Foxley and then with just 5 minutes on the clock broke through the Weston defence to score a try from their burly winger who came into the centre and Foxley converted.
The last play of the game resulted in a penalty for Weston and with nerves of steel Mackay stepped up and slotted the goal to bring things all square on 27 each as the ref blew for no side.
A large crowd had seen some excellent play from both sides and Weston might argue that they deserved better but will still be grateful to pick up 3 points against one of the leagues leading sides.
