Buzzing Weston beat busy Hornets at Home

There is actually not much difference between these two sides, Hornets definitely had good possession and territory but allowed the ball to be turned over too often and committed too many players to the breakdown as Weston ran in 10 tries and converting two compared to Hornets 2 converted tries. Bradley Robinson opened the scoring; his speed took him into the right hand corner. Ruby Richardson outpaced the Hornets defence from halfway; Jamie Meaden broke a tackle to score a try as Hornets committed too many players to the breakdown leaving gaps which Weston exploited. As Hornets pressed into Weston’s half, Alfie Calcutt stole the ball and sprinted away. Ruby then picked up her second this time breaking tackles to score, Alfie scored again as Weston continued to secure good ball at the breakdown. Ciaran scored as Weston pushed Hornets over their own line, Tom Burge also benefited from Hornets tendency to all get drawn in to the break down leaving no defensive cover. Charlie Harding broke tackles as he ran in a try on the left wing; Matthew James scored the last with long run home. Hornets came to life as the game came to a close. From a short penalty after some sustained pressure and good handling Kieran Crowley scored a converted try. The last hurrah belonged to Hornets, winning the scrum they took the blindside option to score.

It was good to see the new players Isaac Bliss, Morgan Taylor and Jack Collings getting involved and Joel Briffitt back in the fold. Whilst Edward Land is looking a significantly better player than last season, he is being helped by the organisational skills of Dylan Way and the ever reliable Lottie Dadds things are looking up.
