This was a hard fought match where Weston had to contend with some pretty uncompromising tackling by Clevedon which made for some uncomfortable watching at times.
Despite giving away a few pounds and inches in the scrum, the forwards of Charlie, Matthew, Tom, Dylan & Morgan more than held their own and with Hobbes ferreting around the base they managed to get Alfie plenty of the the ball.
However Weston are still not quite able to move the ball fluidly beyond the half backs and out into the centres. As a result they are forced to ruck and maul for the ball when he is stopped, rather than sometimes keep the play flowing.
Today though they were very competitive at the breakdown, particularly Dylan and Matthew. Since moving Dylan forwards the front 5 have been much more competitive.
Clevedon though are strong individually and opened with two tries which owed more to some weak tackling more than superior play.
The second half belonged to Weston who spent most of their time in the Clevedon half unable to punch a way through sometimes because the repeated infringements committed by Clevedon particularly in the tackle were not punished.
Tom Burge though showed the way catching a short throw, he was powered to the line by his forwards who were unstoppable when they got going.
Leading tacklers Dylan, Jack and Ciaran.
