A game of two halves for Weston U11s.

A lovely dry and sunny autumn morning saw Weston RFC under 11s travel over to the cathedral city of Wells where they faced two away fixtures. Firstly; Weston played the hosts Wells RFC followed by a game against Chard RFC.

The first game against Wells was a game of two halves. The first half saw a sleepy Weston up against a determined home side who looked to inflict Weston’s first defeat of the season. Wells started spritely and they deservedly opened the scoring with a well worked try which they successfully converted. With Wells in the driving seat and half time fast approaching Weston prop Jack Howard managed to reduce the Wells lead with a good driving effort resulting in an unconverted try. The half time score was Wells 7 – 5 Weston.

The second half was a different story! The Weston pack of George Bamsey, Jimmy Bamsey, Jack Howard, Sam Kerrigan and Josh Gardner who had been sleeping for most of the first half woke up and turned the game around. Once into their stride the Weston pack now dominated the forward exchanges resulting in good quick ball for the backs and in particular half back duo of Jamie Wheeler and Archie Tilsley. J Wheeler was the first to exploit the new quick ball and with some great jinxing running scored two excellent try’s for Weston. Prop George Bamsey added a fourth try for Weston with all three try’s being successfully converted by Tilsley.

A good and strong second half performance by the whole team saw Weston triumph 26 – 7.
