Weston U11s best performance of the season so far!

Having had no fixture the previous week Weston RFC under 11s made a return to match play when they entertained Chew Valley RFC at the Recreation Ground. With dry conditions and a soft pitch underfoot the scene was set for an entertaining game.

Similar to their last outing at the Old Reds two weeks earlier the home team faced a Chew Valley side that fielded a bigger and heavier pack. As such Weston were expecting a tough physical encounter from the start.

As the first half began Weston sprung quickly from their traps and met their opponents head on tackling them ferociously. With their pack dominating the forward exchanges and their backs creating and executing some fine open attacking rugby, Weston soon turned their possession into points.

First to score with a driving run was the ever reliable Weston prop Jack Howard. His score was quickly added to when the hard working lock Josh Gardner and the tough tackling prop George Bamsey added Weston’s second and third try’s respectively. Not to be out done by their forward team mates a great solo run from wing Brandon Charlton and an excellent sniping effort from fly half Archie Tilsley saw the backs add Weston’s fourth and fifth try’s.

With half time approaching another fine driving effort from Howard saw Weston add their sixth score of the half. All six first half try’s were converted by Tilsley and the half time score was 42 – 0 to the home side.

It is with great credit to the whole Chew Valley team that they did not let the one sided first half cause their heads to drop. To a man they picked themselves up and ensured that the second half would turn out to be a closer encounter than the first. As a result Weston only added two further converted try’s by Howard and scrum half Jamie Wheeler while Chew Valley were rewarded for their efforts by recording a well earned converted try. The match ended with a Weston victory 56 – 7.

This was an outstanding display by the whole Weston team and their best team performance of the season so far.

Well done to all fifteen players!
