Its the U13's that kick off the Juniors Award presentations.

The U13s squad have held their annual awards presentation, for the first time via Zoom. Indeed, in reflecting on the year, it had been a season of firsts - cut short of course by the first global pandemic in a generation.

But it was also the teams first year as juniors, first year they’d trained regularly mid-week, first time they’d had a Super Sunday with the coaches of Bristol Bears and first time they played on 4G. But it was also the first time we’d had a serious injury to one of the players and the first (and then second) time we’d seen a broken bone.

Most importantly it was the first season where a dozen players played their first game of rugby for the club, made their first tackle, scored their first try. We are a squad that continues to grow, with all of the opportunities (and challenges) that this brings, but something must be right for 25 kids to keep turning up on wet and windy nights for training.

So, we head into next season, whatever that looks like, in rude health as a squad and keen for the next challenges. And as part of that, the call was joined by George Chapman, coach of the colts, just to give some thoughts about that transition pathway from the juniors, up to the colts and hopefully beyond.

There was also the annual presentation of awards and the winners were:

Best Newcomer – Max Gregory
Most Improved – Jack Hobbs and Oliver Marshall
Players Player – Ellis Rogers
Coaches Player – Ollie Dadds

We are all looking forward to getting together again – not virtually – and getting back to rugby.
