Disappointing Weston fall to students

Weston travelled to Devon with confidence after a bright start to the campaign but were brought firmly down to earth with an abject display strewn with elementary errors and an inability to finish off positive passages of play.
On a day which saw centre Huw Morgan celebrating his sixty fifth appearance for the first team Weston started strongly and soon had the hosts conceding scrum penalties close to their line. Eventually the pressure told when number eight Brad Talbot crashed his way over for wing Chris Young to add a well taken conversion.
This was as good as it got for Weston and Exeter soon hit back with a converted try following the first of two interceptions. Flanker Ben Tothill was then yellow carded and while he was sidelined the Uni fly half Morgan ghosted through a gap to put the hosts into a lead they never relinquished. He added a penalty and then wing Bond benefitted from yet another generous pass from Weston and galloped away to the line. Morgan converting. Weston hit back when scrum half Dan Press took a quick tap and fed hooker Adam Fisher who burrowed over. Weston then had a chance on the stroke of half time to cut the lead to seven points with a distinctly kickable penalty but decided to go for the seven points by kicking down the line. However the chance was blown.
The second half started with a comedy of errors in the visitors defence gifting the hosts centre Kelly with a try. Morgan again converting.
Weston sent on replacements George Bamsey Rich Bignall and George Chapman and it was Chapman slotting in at fly half who created the only class play of an otherwise forgettable afternoon when he found a gap and with searing pace accelerated through it before offloading a perfect pass to Tothill who galloped fifty metres to the line. Chapman converted but it was too little too late and Exeter Uni somewhat predictably finished off proceedings with yet another penalty kicked by Morgan.
An afternoon to forget for Weston despite Huw Morgan's generally excellent play throughout.
