Too Many Missed Tackles

Weston travelled to Nailsea & Backwell, for what should have been a competitive Cup Match. Unfortunately, Weston were only able to compete for a 10 minute period in the second half, by which time the game was long gone. Weston were no where near as comitted as a team as they should have been in the early stages and leaked early scores. Too much standing off, allowed space, and Nailsea had too much class to miss out on their opportunities. When an early Nailsea try in the second half took the score past 40 points, the white flag was being prepared. However, to the lads credit, they dug in and produced some great rugby in an evenly contested 10 minute period. Competeing with aggression they won ruck ball and this allowed Sol Ward to make inroads. When he was tackled on the opposition 22, Aivaras Gaciauskas was on hand to pick up, break two tackles and run under the posts for his first try in a Weston shirt. James Aucott converted and Weston now had a renewed vigour. Tackles were being made and Nailsea lost a little composure with Weston spoiling well. However, when a losse pass led to an interception try, the energy was sapped from the players, heads dropped and Weston returned to old ways. This was a harsh lesson for Weston who must start to realise the importance of committment in the tackle. Next week, we will be back on the training ground, with a new slate and hopefully a new focus. Pats on the back this week go to Kienen Holbrook who had a great impact when he came on and Chow who continues to impress in his first season.
