WESTON U15'S 22 CLEVEDON 12

Weston u15's opened their season with a hard fought victory over local rivals Clevedon in the opening round of the Bristol combination cup, out scoring their visitors by 4 tries to 2

Weston, with the wind at their backs were quickly into their stride, keeping possession and hitting rucks and mauls with pace and power, denying Clevedon any ball for the opening 10 minutes. Only some superb defence kept Weston at bay but eventually after some intense pressure by the home team, who were totally dominant in the scrum, powerful centre Eddie Davies crashed over for the days opening score. Shortly after, Brandon Charlton who had an excellent game, doubled Weston's lead with a great individual try under the posts. The straight forward extras were missed. Weston then inexplicably stopped playing and allowed a very determined Clevedon a period of dominance, in this time before half time Clevedon scored two well deserved tries and a conversion for a 12-10 lead and Weston were clearly needing to rediscover their early form.

The second half began with both sides trying to gain the upper hand, both defences were holding firm, but after a period of Weston pressure where they were unlucky to lose the ball over the try line, centre Jake Middleton, combining well with centre partner Davies, touched down to nudge Weston into a 15-12 lead.

The rest of the match was mostly played in the middle third of the pitch with some ferocious tackling from both sides. With ten minutes remaining a midfield switch 40 metres out saw Davies break several tackles for a fine long range score, George Bamsey adding the conversion for a final score of Weston 22 Clevedon 12.

A special mention to the two under14 lads, Rhys and Dan who stepped up to cover injuries, both were superb.
