Weston show tremendous character

Weston u15's travelled to Burnham with a mixture of debutants, players from the under 14's and players having to play out of position. With four regulars injured in the pack alone this was always going to be a difficult tie but the whole squad showed tremendous character and determination and came away with a fine win.

With Mason Cole in the second row and Dan Price starting on the blind side making their Weston debuts, Weston's pack got the better of the early exchanges against a much bigger and considerably heavier Burnham eight. This provided slick scrum half Dan Press some quick ball for their backs where centre Jake Middleton took full advantage to score under the posts , converted by Archie Tilsley , who kicked superbly all day, to move into a 7-0 lead . Burnham however went straight back to score a fine try of their own . This kick started Weston , their pack led by the excellent skipper Tom Hughes began to dominate , with some powerful runs through Cosmin Bilcirescu and some aggressive rucking further first half tries followed through Middleton and a great long range effort from Josh Bloxham , who had a great game at centre. Tilsley added the extras for a half time score of BoS 5 WsM 21

The second half saw Weston continue to put some excellent phases together , denying the spirited Burnham any real chance to close the deficit . Second half tries for Weston followed from the excellent Brandon Charlton , a third try from Jake Middleton , Dan Harness and late replacement prop George Bamsey who made a surprising recovery from injury to score at the very end , Tilsley adding two conversions for a final score of B-o-S 5 WsM 45

A very enjoyable mornings rugby, Mitchell Bird was outstanding and had his best game so far for Weston, a special mention to the u14 lads Dan Harness and Henry Cox who kindly agreed to play and who both did themselves proud and also to Mason Cole, Dan Price and Reece Widlake who all had great debuts . Well done to all
