Scoreline a little harsh on the Weston lads who battled hard throughout

Weston u15's made the short trip to Hyde Park to tackle the current Somerset cup holders. With more injuries and unavailability Weston shuffled Aaron Snow to the unaccustomed role of scrum half and handed a first start for Lucas Williamson at hooker.
On a beautiful sunny morning and on a huge but very slippery pitch it was Taunton who started much the stronger and were soon camped in the Weston half, despite some solid Weston defending Taunton eventually scored out wide to move 5-0 in the lead. To their credit Weston showed great determination to then go on the attack themselves and after a short period of pressure Eddie Davies scored wide out, 5-5. It was clear the workmanlike Weston pack were a match for their much larger hosts, who, due to their very large squad enjoyed the luxury of continuous roll on, roll off subs throughout. Out in the backs however, Weston were really given a harsh lesson in handling and great use of the wide open spaces on offer and soon after Taunton ran in the simplest of overlap tries to go 12-5 up. The next 15minutes or so saw Weston enjoy their best spell and have Taunton under some pressure, but like all good sides they can defend too, unfortunately for Weston and on the stroke of half time, Taunton turned defence into attack and scored against the run of play, half time 17-5 Taunton .
The second half went very much the same way as the first, with Weston very much competing up front and the Taunton backs threatening every time the ball was moved wide, helped hugely it has to be said by some pretty dire Weston defending in Weston's midfield. Taunton added three more second half tries through their slick handling backs, to their credit Weston heads didn't drop and they completed the days scoring with Aaron Snow, who had a great game out of position, scoring from short range. Final score 34-10 to Taunton who were deserved winners, however, the scoreline a little harsh on the Weston lads who battled hard throughout and for the most kept the game more even than the final scoreline suggests. For Weston, Aaron Snow showed real promise at 9, George Bamsey was superb all over the pitch once again, despite getting repeatedly hammered (legally) at the breakdown, Raul Gray, Addison Myers and Mitchell Bird also putting in good shifts. A lesson in simple rugby for Weston but well done to all involved for playing to the end. Jon
