Under 15's Winning Start to the Season

Match Report by Kenny Braidwood

Weston-super-Mare under 15's got their season off to a winning start against a competitive Frampton Cotterell team. Weston started the quickest and put 24 points on the score board before Frampton Cotterell came back to score two well taken tries.

Dom Marshall was the first Weston player to cross the line following strong scrummaging by the Weston pack which saw them win the ball from a Frampton Cotterell put in. Lewis Paterson missed the conversion. The Weston forwards were dominant at the scrum and ruck for most of the first half with a number of good carries from Andrew Turner, Brooklyn Chamberlain, Toby Maleham and Euan Braidwood.

Next on the score sheet was Kyron Pearce who picked the ball up after Frampton Cotterell failed to properly clear the ball from their own scrum. Lewis Paterson scored with the conversion. Weston third try was scored by Lewis Paterson. Toby Maleham's powerful tackle on the Frampton Cotterell fullback saw the opposition lose possession inside their twenty two. The ball quickly made its way out to Lewis Paterson who darted through the defence to score. The conversion was missed.

The final Weston try of the first half was well taken by Andrew Turner who collected the ball from a Frampton Cotterell line out on their 5 metre line and powered over the line. Lewis Paterson added the extras.

Frampton Cotterell took the game to Weston in the last 10 minutes of the first half and drove the ball over the Weston line for their first try. The conversion was scored. The second Frampton try soon followed after they secured the ball from a scrum in mid field and a solo pacey run up the right wing from a Frampton back added to their points total. The conversion was missed.

Half time - Weston-super-Mare 24 – 12 Frampton Cottrell

The first third of the second half saw Weston soak up a lot of pressure from the opposition. Unfortunately for Frampton Cottrell they could not make their possession count and it was Weston who scored next from a good backs move which ended with Kyron Pearce crossing the line. Lewis Paterson scored his best conversion of the day from a tight angle.

Mateuloh Abed was next to score on his debut for the club. His pace out on the right saw him escape a couple of tackles after the ball made its way to him via the backs to touch the ball down in the right hand corner. The conversion was missed. The final scorer for Weston was Harry Strutt who made a break down the left from just inside the Weston half. The conversion was missed.

Frampton's only score of the second half came in the last play of the game when after keeping hold of the ball out on the right they managed to drive the ball over the line. The conversion was missed.

Mateuloh Abed, Rueben Picardo and Jay Ewens all made their debut for the team today. Each made valuable contributions to the game and they will all be great assets to the team.

Man of the match went to Toby Maleham for his great work in clearing out in the rucks and his well executed tacking.
