Weston put on brave performance against a strong Winscombe team

Match report by Shane Connolly

Weston Under 15’s took on last seasons winning finalist Winscombe in the quarter final of the Somerset cup. Knowing they had their work cut out Weston got off to a shaky start, knocking on from the kick off resulting in a scrum to their opponents inside their 22. What followed was a relentless stream of Winscombe attacks for the majority of the first half and were it not for a strong defensive display from the likes of Mateuloh Abed, Harry Strutt, Joseph Connolly and especially Dan Meaden, then Weston would have finished the half with a greater than 0-19 deficit.

Although Winscombe are a class act, Weston are made of equally strong stuff and were determined to fight back in the second half with Brooklyn Chamberlain crossing the line twice only for the second to be deemed held up. The quick footed Dom Marshall used all his skills to break the Winscombe line several times. Winscombe’s first half scrum dominance, was cancelled out by the strengths of Reef Morton, Jay Ewens and Rueben Picardo bossed by the authorative leadership of Andrew Turner. The final score Weston 5 - Winscombe 24.

Weston knew this was going to a strong competitive game and they put in a good team performance. Full credit goes to the whole team for their team spirt and discipline.

Player of the match went to Lewis Paterson who played with passion in several positions.
