Weston win for under 15's

On a damp and grey morning, Weston under 15’s welcomed Wiveliscombe to a depleted team. Due to illness, half term and other rugby commitments Weston only had 14 players, so Wiveliscombe sportingly provided one of their players for the first part of the match.

Weston got off to a good start with Rueben Picardo, spotting a gap in the Wivvy defence and was able to score the first try of the match, converted by Lewis Paterson. The game continued with a fantastic charge down the pitch from Mateuloh Abed for what would have been a spectacular try were it not for last minute Wivvy tackle. With the help some great hands by Reef Morton, Brooklyn Chamberlain was able to surge over the line for the second try of the first ten minutes of the game. Paterson added the extras

Following a brief disruption, due to an injury, the game continued on an alternative pitch. The interruption hadn’t put off Weston speed
merchants Harry Strutt and Paterson who both sped off down the wing outwitting Wivvy with their interplay between them. Paterson scored, but immediately pulled up and had to retire from the game. Following the conversion Weston pressed on with 13 men against Wiveliscombe’s 14.

Toby Maleham was next on the score board with two consecutive tries, one of which was converted by Harry Strutt. Half time score 31-0.

Weston continued the pressure in the second half. Credit to the Wiveliscombe under 15’s who never tired in their defence. Mateuloh Abed had another great run down the pitch which he was able to finish with a try. This was unconverted.

The Wiveliscombe players showed true spirt and Weston had to spend the next passage of play defending their own 22. This resulted in a well-deserved try from the Wivvy side. Try converted score 37-7.

Weston new comer AJ Major was the next on the Weston score board with another fleet footed run down the pitch showing his speed and agility. Try unconverted.

The final play of the game saw Weston defending their own 22 once which resulted in a try for Wivilsicombe.

Weston put in a great team effort today. We have had a number of new players this season and they all made a fantastic contribution to this game.

Player of the match went to Reef Morton for hard work, commitment and a sublime switch.
