Weston back on form against touring Ledbury

Weston welcomed touring side Ledbury RFC on a beautiful sunny morning. Having had a couple weeks off for the Easter break the Weston team were raring to go.

The game got off to a great start for Weston with Dom Marshall’s first try of the game converted by Lewis Paterson. Next on the score sheet was the powerful Brooklyn Chamberlain who scored under the posts. The conversion was missed.

Weston spent the next 10 minutes defending with great work from the forwards. Next score came from the captain, Kyron Pearce who surged down the pitch. Lewis Paterson added the extras. Not to be outdone on the scoreboard, a great break to winger Harry Strutt enabled him to score, once again converted Lewis Paterson. The sunsequent Ledbury kick off was caught by Andrew Turner, who dodged and darted down the pitch to score near the posts. Lewis Paterson added the extras.

Ledbury shook away some of their tour cobwebs to take more control of the game for the next ten minutes. Two converted tries made the score at half time 33-14.

The second half started in much the same way as the first with Kyron Pearce scoring and conversion added by Lewis Paterson. The next passage of play saw a lightning run by Matti Abed from Weston surging down the pitch to the Ledbury try line. Brilliant defensive work from the Ledbury players thwarted Matte’s run this time. The game continued with Weston defending their 22 again. However Ruben Picardo turned the ball over, passed to Dom Marshall who used the line to feed the ball to Matti Abed who scored under the posts. Conversion added by Lewis Paterson.

Next on the score board was Ledbury bringing the score to 47-21.

Great work from the forwards including Joseph Connolly and the Weston pack allowed Billy Howells to score off of a set peice move from a scrum. Lewis Paterson was on fine form today duly converting with a kick right next to the touchline. The last passage of play saw a brilliant break from Dom Marshall from his own 22 to score the final try of the day under the posts, converted by Andrew Turner.

Ledbury played with their heart and soul, had a great sense of humour and never gave up. Well done lads.

Player of the match went to Dom Marshall for good hands and great running the lines. Great work from the backs, excellent passing between the players which kept the ball moving.

Great team effort today from the Weston squad.
