U15's through to Semi-final Somerset Cup

Weston U15's went to Old Reds on Sunday in the 1/4 final of the Somerset Cup and came away winners 29 v 5Conditions were very poor with driving rain, a fast flowing game was not expected but both teams played well, Weston making the most of the toss and playing with the wind in the first half, it was important that Weston scored early and build an advantage for the second half, when the conditions would be against them, Weston camped in the Old Reds half for most of the first 15 minuets, good work from the Weston forwards saw them close to the Old Reds try line, following a scrum against Weston the following scrum half kick was charged down by Declan Dillan who gathered the ball and scored in the corner, con missed 5 v 0 Weston.Further good passages of play particulary from the Weston back row of Declan, Charlie and Jack, saw Old Reds under more pressure, the resulting turn over saw the back line move the ball along to the winger Sam Mitchell who went in at the corner, a great passage of play from the entire team. 10 v 0 to Weston. From the kick off Weston ran the ball back at Old Reds and after 5/10 minuets of sustained pressure from Weston a good forward series of pick and go saw Adam Fisher go over the line and showed great determination in getting the ball to the ground for a well worked try. 15 v 0 to Weston.Old Reds them came back into the game and almost at the stroke of half time they went over in the corner 15 v 5 to Weston. The Weston players were galvanised by this score against the run of play and at the following kick off caught Old Reds cold, with a fast kick off and good support play, saw Sam Fisher (prop) run in a great try con Dan Lomax 22 v 5 to Weston at half time. The second half started with both sets of players suffering from the cold/rain this resulted in a stop start match due to knock-ons etc, Sam Fisher at center had a good game with some good attacking runs and offloads releasing following players, the game flowed from half to half untill good pressure from Weston saw Old Reds give away a penalty near their try line, a well worked penalty move saw Sam Fisher (prop) go over for his second try of the game, con Dan final score 29 v 5 to Weston. Dispite the conditions this was an excellant display by the Weston team, the semi-final is against Clevedon on 22nd March, next training 6pm Thursday all to attend plaese.
