Weston U15s victorious over depleted Burnham side

Weston travelled to near neighbours on what turned out to be lovely sunny day to find their hosts somewhat depleted. However, with the loan of a couple of players, we were able to enjoy a feast of running rugby.

It looked initially that Weston were going to have it all their own way, with the visitors camped on the hosts line. However, that pressure couldn't be made to tell and Burnham broke away, running the length of the pitch uncontested to score and take an early 7-0 lead.

However, from then on Weston focused and dominated the majority of the game.

From the kick off Weston went through the phases and finally Alex Sandford got over for the first Weston try of thee day. Minutes later, a line out on her own 22 was followed by good hands from the outside backs and Max Gregory made good ground, before the ball came back through hands and Keanu Ballard scored under the post and Weston took a lead they were not to give up for the remainder of the game. (12-7)

Weston found that, with secured ball, simple hands and strong running often rested in scores, with Eesa Hussain benefits next, going in under the posts (19-7). The lack of front row specialists resulted in uncontested scrums and the next try came from a first phase training ground move, with Ellis Rogers again the beneficiary of good work from Harry Wills at the base of the scrum and Eesa Hussain, strong running. (24-7)

But Burnham were not giving up and had W3ston under pressure, but a crunching tackle from Matt Bradley popped the ball free and the backs were able to swoop, with quick hands Jayden Hood got outside the defence to score to take the score to 29-7.

The half ended with another set of swift hands putting Eesa Hussain yet again into space and took the score to 34-7 at the break.

The second half took a similar form, with Weston dominating, but lack of discipline and structure meant that they struggled to accumulate scores as they did in the first half.

Close work form the forward did though provide the gap for Keanu Ballard to bundle over for his second score of the match 41-7 and some strong counter rucking provided the opportunity for Oliver Marshall to skip away on the blind side and score from deep, Oliver converting his own try to take it to 48-7. And similarly strong breakdown work from JJ Weall provided yet another opportunity for Keanu to score his hatrick to take it over the 50 mark (55-7) and a final flurry from Weston allowed Alex Sandford to score his second of the day, taking the score to a round 60 for the visitors.

However, the home team weren't done yet - with a little help from the Weston boys playing on their side, the hosts bundled over in the corner to make the finals core 60-12.
