Defeat against a good side

Weston Under 15's travelled to Chew Valley RFC for only their 3rd game of the season and it was another early start having only last week had to travel to Coombe Down RFC in the cup.

Travelling with a squad of 19 and a few changes made due to unavailability and long term injury, Weston began the game taking the game to Chew Valley with great rucking and a huge improvement in defensive organisation and communication. There was great ball carrying by Adley Phillip and Callum Board as Weston began to get behind the opposition defence and create chances through George Pengelly Powell and Sam Board. It was great offloading again out of the tackle that led to Weston taking the lead through Ewen Kennedy and converted by Jake Grimes.

Weston had their oppotunities to score again but were thwarted by good tackling by Chew Valley. The momentum was taken away when Weston had an injury to Andy Bancroft who's studs were caught in the ground when tackled and he could not continue due to a pulled leg muscle. The game ended at half time 12-7 to Chew Valley after tries by a very fast winger for Chew Valley.

The second half started with Chew Valley bringing on some of their experienced backs with this turning the game with the Weston players tiring. It is clear to see that Chew Valley U15's will be the team to beat this year as they continue to improve. Weston were able to compete at the rucks and lineouts and scrums with the forwards doing an outstanding job against a much taller and stronger pack from Chew Valley.

The score line ended 40-7 to Chew Valley but Weston can be proud of their efforts with the team continuing to improve, adapt and integrate new players into a squad full of potential.

Weston have training on the 23rd October 2011 before they play Nailsea and Backwell away in the Preliminary Bristol Combination Plate Cup game on the 30th October. This will be prop Will Mathieson's last game for us as he and family emigrate to Australia and enjoy their life 'down under'.
