Nailsea and Backwell U15 12 v 33 Weston-super-Mare U15

Weston U15 travelled yet again for a fixture in the Bristol Combination Cup, making it 4 out of 5 games away so far this season but the results are beginning to change.

It was another great day for rugby with Nailsea and Backwell using their first team pitch to show off the sides style of running rugby. Weston won the toss and elected to go up the field first half in what was a certain advantage to each side in each half.

The game began with Nailsea having alot of the ball and Weston very quickly learning that they were in a game and were going to have to defend for their lives in the first half and try to do the basics of defence right to stay in touch.

It was Nailsea who scored the first try of the game which was converted meaning a 7-0 lead, but credit to the Weston team who then piled on the pressure and were unlucky not to score a couple of times after great passing out of tackles and running hard lines with Jake Harper inspirational in giving Weston a platform of being on the front foot. Weston scored after great work by Jake Harper to offload on the line to Adley Phillips who scored his first try for the club and converted well by Jake Grimes.
Weston sadly lost captain Harry Charalambous to a tight hamstring which meant a couple of positional changes which took a while to sette. Nailsea came back though and should have scored 3 tries had it not been for great cover defence and holding the ball up over the line, a credit to all with the commitment to not let them score. However Nailsea did score again just before half time to leave the score Nailsea 12 v 7 Weston.

The second half saw Weston had the advantage of playing down the hill and after the team talk at half time and the belief of the whole squad it was Jake Harper who sped around the Nailsea defence to go under the posts to give Weston a 14-12 lead for the first time. Weston were camped in the Nailsea half and stayed there for most of the game through great line out work from Jack Southwood Turner and good ball carrying from Callum Board and Callum Kingscott.

The next try came from a kick over the top of the Nailsea defence for George Pengelly Powell to run on to and go under the posts again for Jake Grimes to convert. There were a number of changes made through the 2nd half with all the squad being used and being part of an all round good performance. The scoring was not done yet though with Tom Davidson crashing over after a quick tap penalty near the line which Jake Grimes hit the post with the conversion and the scoring was finished off by Leon Sabastonelli again converted by Jake Grimes to finish at full time 12 v 33.

Weston U15 go through to the next round of the plate to face Clifton, you guessed it........AWAY. Things need to be worked on in training as so to continue to improve starting with Bridgwater away in the Somerset Cup.
